Carl E. Winter

99-year-old Carmi resident, Carl E. Winter died at 8:27 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. Just before entering the military, he went to work for Wabash Valley Service Co. After almost four years in the South Pacific during WWII, he returned to Carmi and spent 29 years with Wabash Valley. Most of those years were spent as manager of the familiar Carmi station at the corner of Main Cross and Robinson.

Survivors include a son, Roger Winter of Carmi; a sister, Marie Mann of Poseyville, IN; a brother, Herman Winter of Carmi and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Carl E. Winter will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi with burial in North Maple Ridge Cemetery at Carmi.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 Wednesday evening at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi and from 1 p.m. Thursday until the time of service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.

 

Chester Vernon Siegert

88-year-old rural Grayville resident, Chester Vernon Siegert, died Saturday, June 26 at his home. He attended Fortney United Methodist Church near Grayville, and was a World War II Air Force veteran and was a B24 pilot. For 38 years he was a flight instructor at the White County Flying Club, of which he was past president. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Club, Elks Club, Experimental Aircraft Association, Air Force Association, Edwards County Farm Bureau, Military Officers Association of America and Civil Air Patrol. In 1961 he was the winner of the Illinois State Handicapped Trap Shoot.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jean Siegert of Grayville; one son, Charles Vernon Siegert of Grayville; four daughters, Sue Ann Siegert Powell and Cynthia Jean Wolf both of Grayville, and Barbara Gail Bossart and Lisa Kay Siegert-Free both of Colorado, four grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Chester Vernon Siegert will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Burial with military rites will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Grayville.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.

 

Wilford Burl Bell

85-year-old Fairfield resident, Wilford Burl Bell died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 22 at the Chisolm Trail Nursing Home in Lockart, TX. He had owned Bell's Upholstry Shop in Kirkland, IL for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife Dora Verne Bell of Fairfield; sons, David Bell of Fairfield and Ronald Bell of TX; a sister, Patsy Sanders of Mount Vernon, IL ; a twin brother, Wilburn Murl Bell of TN; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Wilford Burl Bell will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30 at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Pin Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30 until the time of service at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and will be accepted at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

Steven K. Browning

62-year-old McLeansboro resident, Steven K. Browning died at 7:38 a.m. Thursday, June 24. He was a financial audit director for Peoples National Bank in Mount Vernon. He graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He was in banking for over 37 years including Internal Auditor, Commercial Lending, Agriculture Lending and Senior Operations Officer. Prior to entering banking, he was Senior Auditor for the U.S. Department of Defense in Alexandria, VA. He was a member of the NRA and the Macedonia Masonic Lodge # 1128.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Browning and two special close friends and their wives, Larry and Ellen Gibbs and Terry and Valerie Gibbs.

Services for Steven K. Browning will be 4 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in Union Cemetery at Macedonia, IL

Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

 

Gerry Grogan

84-year-old Flora resident, Gerry Grogan died Thursday evening, June 24 at Flora Rehab & Health Care Center in Flora. Grogan had operated Gerry's Beauty Shop on West Third Street in Flora for over 30 years.

Surviving are children, Bob Grogan of Weatherford, TX and Gerry Todd of Evansville, IN; one sister, Shirley Elkin of Decatur, IL; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gerry Grogan will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Flora.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, until the time of service at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Memorials may be made to the Flora First Baptist Church.

 

Imogene Lowery

89-year-old McLeansboro resident, Imogene Lowery died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, June 24 at White Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon. She was a seamstress for the Decatur Garmet Company and a member of First Baptist Church of McLeansboro.

Survivors include: her daughter, Judy Malle of Mt. Vernon, IL; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Imogene Lowery will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in 100F Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday, June 26, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

 

Charles Rohr

84-year-old Flora resident, Charles Rohr died Thursday morning, June 24 at 4:16 a.m. at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He had worked as an operator for Halliburton and was also owner/operator along with his wife of Rohr's Grocery for 30 years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Shirley Blackburn of Princeton, IN, and Michelle Green of Belleville, IL; one son, Charles Rohr of Watson, IL; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Charles C. Rohr will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29 at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with burial in the Zif Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Masonic Rites.

Memorials maybe be made to the Sailor Springs First Baptist Church.

 

Donald L. Tucker

82-year-old Dahlgren resident, Donald L. Tucker died at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon. He was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Tucker; a son, Don Tucker of Wayne City; a daughter, Madonna Szostak of Mount Vernon, IL; a brother, J.A. Tucker of Mount Vernon; sisters, Jessie Birkhead and Daphne Auxier of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services for Donald L. Tucker will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in Union Cemetery near Dahlgren.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday, June 26 until the time of service at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.

Memorials may be made to the Dahlgren Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.

 

Kenny Keen

75-year-old Fairfield resident, Kenny Keen died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 at his home. He was the retired owner and operator of the Standard Station in Fairfield on South First Street next to Nale's Funeral Home. In later years, he worked as a home health nurse. He was also a member of the Fairfield Lions Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Keen-Cooper of Columbus, OH and a sister, Wanda Buckles of Sedalia, MO.

A Memorial service for Kenny Keen will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Nale's Funeral home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Lions Club Scholarship Fund and will be accepted at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

Evelyn "Joey" Williams

66-year-old Wayne City Resident Evelyn "Joey" Williams died at home at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. She was a secretary for Country Companies in Fairfield until retirement, was a Past President of the Wayne City Library Board, and was a member of Wayne City First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Ronald "Ron" Williams of Wayne City; two daughters, Beth Turner of Fairfield, and Rhonda Loveless of Woodlawn, IL; her father, James Henry Withrow of Wayne City; mother-in-law Rosemary Williams of Wayne City; daughter-in-law Nanette Williams of Woodlawn, IL; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Evelyn "Joey" Williams will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City, IL. An interment of cremated remains will be at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, IL.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Memorials may be given to the Clay County Hospice and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
