Evelyn (Golden) Rolka
92-year-old Evelyn (Golden) Rolka, of Salamanca, NY and formerly of Cisne, died Sunday evening June 13th at Waters of Salamanca Nursing Home in Salamanca. She worked as a Lab Technician at the former Salamanca District Hospital and was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1002 and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Railroad Firemen.
Survivors include one son, James R. (Billie) Marsh of Tulsa, OK, two daughters, Alice M. (Glen) Garrett of Fairfield, IL and Marilyn Siemone of Fisher, IL, one sister Mary Tice of Reseada, CA and one brother Burl Zimmerman of Las Vegas, NV, 12 Grandchildren and several Great Grandchildren also survive as well as several nieces and nephews.
There are no funeral services or visitation. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Salamanca, NY. The O’Rourke and O’Rourke Funeral Home in Salamanca, is in charge of arrangements.
Wayne Louis Gibbs
63-year-old Carmi resident, Wayne Louis Gibbs died Monday, June 14 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. He was an electrician and musician and had worked at the Beatty Hammond Organ Studio in Benton, IL. He had also been the owner and operator of the Carmi Music Center in the early 1970's.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; three daughters, Kara Gibbs of Memphis, TN, Kelly Erwin of Carmi and Krystal Heck of Sparta; and a sister, Louise Bowman of McLeansboro.
Services for Wayne Louis Gibbs will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17 at the Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi with burial in Union Ridge Cemetery near Norris City.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 Wednesday evening, June 16 at the Cook Chapel in Carmi.
Memorials may be made to the Southern Illinois Kidney Memorial Trust Fund in Carbondale and will be accepted at the Cook Chapel in Carmi.
Rolla J. Connaway
92-year-old Mt. Vernon, IL resident, Rolla J. Connaway died at 1:55 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He owned and operated the Western Auto Store in McLeansboro for over forty years. He attended St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marilyn Simpson of Fairfield and Elizabeth Brook of St. Peters, MO; two sisters, Evelyn Walker of Mount Vernon, IL and Pauline Ledbetter of Mt Vernon, IN; six grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services for Rolla J. Connaway will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 in Jordan Chapel Cemetery in Jefferson County.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Good Samaritan Hospital and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home.
George Wilson
79-year-old Grayville resident, George Wilson died Sunday, June 13 at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville. A veteran of the Korean War, he had been a machinist and partner in the McCoy Machine and Tool Company in Grayville.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rose Wilson; a son, Kevin Lee Wilson of Newburgh, IN; a daughter, Sharon Kay May of Grayville; two brothers, John Wilson of Roswell, NM and Richard Wilson of Sunnyvale, WA; four sisters, Daisy Frankel of St. Louis, Jean Lester and Carolyn Saltz of Washington State, and Jo Ann Weekly of St. Louis; and 6 grandchildren.
Services for George Wilson will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16 at the Cook Chapel in Grayville with burial and military rites at Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 Tuesday evening, June 15 at the Cook Chapel in Grayville.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Women's Council and will be accepted at the Cook Chapel in Grayville.
Grace Barbre Winter
94-year-old Carmi resident, Grace Barbre Winter, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She worked at Ainsbrook Garment Factory.
Surviving are her husband Carl of Carmi; one son, Roger of Carmi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Grace Barbre Winter will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery at Carmi.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
Memorials may be made to the Emmaunel United Methodist Church, and will be accepted at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
Donald Atteberry
76-year-old Fairfield resident, Donald Atteberry, died at 11:34 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. He had worked in the oil field.
Surviving are a daughter, Keila Reid of Christopher, IL; one son, James of Fairfield; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Donald Atteberry will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. The body is to be cremated following the service.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, until the time of service at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Kenneth "Ken" Gene Wilson
42-year-old Carmi resident, Kenneth "Ken" Gene Wilson, died Thursday, June 10, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he served as a certified sniper in the Special Forces Airborne Rangers. In December of 1990 he participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama. He was an accomplished musician specializing in stringed instruments, and produced many hand-made double curved archery bows.
Surviving are two sisters, Kathy Fox of Carmi and Kelly Walsh of Ridgewood, NJ.
Private graveside services with military rites for Kenneth "Ken" Gene Wilson will be held Tuesday, June 22, at White County Memorial Gardens near Carmi. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at the VFW in Carmi.
Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi is in charge of the arrangements.
Oscar C. Shuler
95-year-old Crossville resident, Oscar C. Shuler, died at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at Wabash Christian Retirement in Carmi. He was a laborer in the oil field.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Alice Spencer and Jessie Duncan both of Crossville and Lora Mick of Evansville, IN; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Oscar C. Shuler will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, IL. Burial will be in Alma Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon Sunday, June 13, until the time of service at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, IL.
Memorials may be made to Southern IL Hospice East.
Sophia McCann
99-year-old Cisne resident, Sophia McCann died at 11:12 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at Way-Fair in Fairfield. She was a homemaker, and had worked at Flora International Shoe and over 26 years at the Flora Garment Factory.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin of Dyersburg, TN and Richard of Cisne; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Sophia McCann will be at noon Monday, June 14, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Flora.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, until the time of service at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
Memorials may be made to the Blue Point Free Will Baptist Church.
Stefanie Roseanne Schmidt
33-year-old Bone Gap resident, Stefanie Roseanne Schmidt died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, June 5 at Richland Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Room.
Survivors include three brothers, Chuck Cheadle of Bone Gap, Randy Cheadle of Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Danny Chadle of Newton; and a sister, Christina Routten of Bridgeport.
A memorial service for Stefanie Roseane Schmidt will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11 at the Browns United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation.
The Ingram Funeral Home of Albion is in charge of all the arrangements.
