Dean Ray Summers

78-year-old Noble resident, Dean Ray Summers, died at 10:38 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

Funeral services for Dean Ray Summers will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Noble. Burial will be in Hanna Cemetery at Noble. Full military rites will be conducted by the Sailor Springs Veterans.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Noble.

Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Church or Hanna Cemetery Fund.

 

Winnie Cantrell

90-year-old Xenia resident, Winnie Cantrell, died Saturday, July 24, at Good Samaritan Village in Moscow, ID.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

 

Melba Smith

90-year-old Xenia resident, Melba Smith, died Saturday morning, July 24, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora, IL. She was owner/operator of Melba's Beauty Shop in Xenia.

Surviving are a sister, Imogene Anderson of Apple Valley, MN; one brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Melba Smith will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery at Xenia.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, until the time of service at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Memorials may be made to the Xenia United Methodist Church.

 

Mabel Bernice Ridgely

92-year-old Olney resident, Mabel Bernice Ridgely, died at 9:08 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Burgin Manor in Olney.

Funeral services for Mabel Bernice Ridgely will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26, at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery at Olney.

Visitation will be one hour before the time of service on Monday, July 26, at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

 

Minnie Beatrice Holstein

82-year-old Fairfield resident, Minnie Beatrice Holstein, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Way-Fair Nursing Home in Fairfield.

Surviving are three daughters, Minnie Hosick, Myrtle Kieser, and Maude McGill and husband Kenny all of Fairfield; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Champa of East Alton, IL; and one brother, Louis Berg of Florida.

Funeral services for Minnie Beatrice Holstein will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be in Buckeye Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

John Howard Ellis

65-year-old Keenes resident, John Howard Ellis, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, July 23, at his home. He was retired from Quebcor World Color and Papertown Ag. He was also a farmer and former oil field worker. He served on the Board of Trustees of Garrison Temple Church and Bradford Cemetery in Hickory Hill Township. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife Linda; one daughter, Rose Ann Quandt of Iuka; two sons, Bill of Keenes and Chris of Cisne; five grandchildren; one brother, Ted of Effingham, IL; and three sisters, Carolyn Mahnke of Festus, MO, Marie Wicklein of Peoria, IL and Laura Henson of Cisne.

Funeral services for John Howard Ellis will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 26, at Garrison Temple Church in rural Keenes. Burial will be in Garrison Temple Church Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #141 of Mt. Vernon, Il.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.

Memorials may be made to the family, and will be accepted at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.

 

Margaret Louise Pennington

78-year-old Centralia, IL resident, Margaret Louise Pennington, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin, IL. She was retired from Airtex, and was a member of the Springerton Christian Chapel Church for many years.

Surviving are her husband Fred Douglas Pennington of Odin; and one son, Wilford Pennington of Centralia, IL.

Graveside services for Margaret Louise Pennington will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 26, at the Springerton Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Marion Lee Combs

71-year-old Marion Lee Combs died at 12 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He had worked for Halliburton for 25 years.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Musgrave of Fairfield and Melinda Barnett of Lonsdale, MN; a sister, Beverly Legg of Barnhill and 4 grandchildren.

Services for Marion Lee Combs will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery at Grayville.

Visitation will be from 1:30 Saturday until the time of service at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

Frances L. Pottorff

80-year-old rural Fairfield resident, Frances L. Pottorff died Wednesday, July 21 in the Comfort Room of Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She had worked at Airtex Products in Fairfield before becoming the secretary of the U.S. Soil and Water Conservation Service office where she retired after 26 years of service. She was an avid stained glass maker, and was known for her many beautiful pieces she hand crafted.

Survivors include a son, Mike Pottorff of Fairfield; a daughter, Gayla Cox of Ridgway; two sisters, Joyce Foister of Fairfield and Virginia Grimes of Arkansas; a brother, Leroy Griffith of South Carolina; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Frances L. Pottorff will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 Friday evening, July 23 at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the Comfort Room of Fairfield Memorial Hospital and will be accepted at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

Mary (Cooney) Nipper

84-year-old McLeansboro resident, Mary (Cooney) Nipper, died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Enfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Enfield. She was a former chairman of the Hamilton County Board, and operator of Dolan Lake Concessions Area for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Rita Crain of McLeansboro and Jackie Robinson of Norris City; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mary (Cooney) Nipper will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial will be in St. Clements Catholic Cemetery at McLeansboro.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary for placement of Flowers/Crosses on the square and Flags on the graves of Veterans.

Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.
