Robert G. Hughes, 89 of Carmi, died early Saturday morning May 18, 2013 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.
Robert had worked for the Department of Defense, International. He taught in colleges and universities and for the military. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving in WWII and Korea. He had been an aerial gunner on a B-24 that crash landed in France. He was member of the American Legion and had been Quartermaster of the White County VFW Post in Carmi for 30 years. He volunteered at the White County Senior Citizens Center in Carmi.
Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends, Jack Lamont and Vicki Harrelson.
Services for Robert G. Hughes will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in Stokes Chapel Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be noon until the time of service at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the White County Senior Citizen’s Center.
