66-year-old Xenia resident, Robert R. Smith, died at 4:02 p.m. Thursday, July 18 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL. He received training and certification in Mechanics. He served as an Army Veteran during the Vietnam War. He also worked 23 years at World Color, and later on the seismic crew for the Ceja Corporation. For the past ten years, he worked at Minwax Sherwin Williams, and ran his family farm. He was a member of the Coon Creek Ridge Riders and the Flora American Legion Post #14.
Surviving are his wife Mabel of Xenia; daughters, Tammy Smith Wyman, Robbin Smith and Gale Smith all of Xenia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Venita Wartsbaugh of Palestine, IL, Ammie Bonham of Sims, Margaret Simpson and Lois Simpson both of Flora, Dorothy Rigg of Crane, TX, and Ellen Coble of Xenia; two brothers, Mike of Flora and Curt of Cadillac, MI; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Clay City; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Robert R. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Xenia with military honors.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at the Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora and from 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 until the time of service.
