Ruby Beatrice (Bea) Lichtenberger Bowers, 95, died on June 5, 2013, at 12:31 a.m. in Sunset Home in Quincy. She was a native of White County and had many relatives live in the area. She worked at a dress factory, then moved to Peoria where she managed a millinery shop and designed hats. She later moved to Quincy and became head of the hat department at the Halbach-Schroeder Department Store. Later, she became a successful realtor.
Survivors include a sister, Bertha Blackford, and a brother, Robert Lichtenberger and his wife, Wilma of Fairfield; her husband John Paul Bowers and two children: John (Colleen) Bowers of Sheboygan, Wis.; and Joan (Gary) Schwartz of Carmel, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nieces: Vivian Blackford and Shirley Lichtenberger Miller of Fairfield; Lorna Springer (Jack) Morrison of Geneva; Barbara Gerdes, Janet (Joe) Conover, and Mary Gates of Quincy; Betty Bowers (Pete) Simaitis of Rockford; Delorise Bowers Williams of Plano, Texas; and Shirley Bowers Bogle of Davenport, Iowa; nephews are: Stephen (Sherrie) Lichtenberger of Jerseyville; Brian (Kimberly) Lichtenberger of Wheeling; and Cory (Judith) Lichtenberger of Barrington. Ruby is also survived by nephew Kenneth Blackford’s widow, Dorris, of Mill Shoals; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
Services for Bea Litchenberger Bowers were held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Sunset Home Chapel in Quincy with burial in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. The Hansen-Spear Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
