97-year-old Belle Rive resident, Susie Lee Cross, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, July 18 in Mesa, AZ. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University and taught in one room school houses as well as teaching in the Mount Vernon, IL public schools, Dahlgren High School and did administration work for SIU. She was a lifetime member of Pi Lamda Theta Sorority, the Order of Eastern Star, and Retired Illinois Teacher’s Association.
Survivors include her son, Terry Cross of LaSalle, IL; a daughter, Judith Wilson of Middleville, MI; a sister, Mollie Olson of Tempe, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Denise Cross of Belle Rive; a sister-in-law, Minnie Sneed of Mt. Vernon, IL; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Susie Lee Cross will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the Belle Rive Baptist Church with burial in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Dahlgren.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 Tuesday evening, July 23 at the Belle Rive Baptist Church and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Belle Rive Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, which is in charge of all the arrangements.
