Thomas S. Land-Founder of WFIW 1953-2011
Tom was the founder of WFIW in 1953 and was Board Chairman of Wayne County Broadcasting. Tom was still active in the day-to-day operations of WFIW until his death. Tom enjoyed his family, religion, his community, radio show programs, and current events.
He died at home on October 22, 2011 at the age of 91.
Stan David-Sports Director 1971-2009
Stan David was WFIW/WOKZ’s Sports Director and on-air morning host on WFIW AM 1390. Stan joined the stations in July, 1971 and was an instant hit with our listeners. Besides his duties at the radio stations, Stan also enjoyed watching most any sporting event on TV or in person. He loved “da Bears” and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Unexpectedly, Stan died at home on November 11, 2009.
Gil Wallace -”Morning Mayor” 1956-1991
Gil was WFIW’s “Morning Mayor” on The Coffee Club, later changed to The Breakfast Nook after the price of coffee skyrocketed. He came to Fairfield in 1956 from WVMC in Mt. Carmel, IL. Not only did Gil host the morning program, he was also WFIW’s Chief Engineer. Gil was very civic minded and thoroughly enjoyed his involvement with the Fairfield Public Library.
After retiring in 1991, he moved to Florida where he passed away on November 15, 1999.
