The Clay County Sheriffs office is investigating an Explosion Monday morning in Edgewood, that left one person injured. An investigation by the Sheriffs office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Secretary of State Bomb squad and the Clay County states attorney led to the arrest of 35-year-old Kevin E Caldwell of Edgewood. Caldwell is charged with possession of an explosive or incendiary device, possession of Methamphetamine, unlawful possession of firearm ammunition by a felon and theft. Caldwell is being held in the Clay County jail under $50, 000 bond.

Carmi police responded to a domestic disturbance Thursday night on Olive street. 48-year-old Angela M. Castleberry was arrested for domestic disturbance in front of her home, for allegedly starting a loud argument with her brother and threatening him with a piece of wood. Bond was set at $150.

The 33rd annual Wayne County Corn and Soybean yield tour has been set for Monday August 24th. Teams will leave JT’s in Wayne City at 7am that day to check 10 corn and 10 soybean fields in each area of the county for yield, then meet back at noon to compile the yield estimates. The lowest yields were in the first year of the tour, 1983 when the estimates were 17.4 bushel soybeans and 34 bushel corn.

Illinois State police are reminding motorist that with the start of the new school year means motorist need to be watchful for children walking and riding their bikes to school. Motorists are reminded to watch their speed in school zones and limit distractions. Also motorist approaching a stopped school bus with lights activated and sign extended, need to stop. Failure to do so could result in a $150 fine and suspension of your driver’s license for 3 months.
