The Fairfield city council will meet Tuesday night, on the agenda is the approval of one way streets around FCHS. The Council will also be awarding bids for a truck for the filter plant and one for the power plant. The council will also consider a pothole patching system and Frontier Community College student housing.

The Investigation Discovery show “Nightmare Next Door” recounting the 2012 murders of Jessica Evans, 17, of Norris City and Jacob Wheeler, 22, of Carmi will be replayed tomorrow at 3pm. The episode is also available for download at Amazon. Danny Coston of Carmi was convicted in August of 2013 of the murders and is serving a 53 year sentence.

The results for the Edwards County corn yield survey show an average corn yield of 151.51 bushels per acre. Overall, those involved in the yield survey really liked the quality and quantity of the corn they found, according to Rebecca Perry with the Edwards County Farm Bureau. The survey was conducted by randomly picking six fields in each township and then taking three samples from each field.

The annual Xenia Volunteer Fireman’s fish fry and dance is being held today. Food will be served from 11 am to midnight, there will be a flea market, and bounce houses for the kids. The Corn hole tournament starts at 4pm and the road rally judging is at 5pm, the Firebox Band will be on stage at 8 and the 161 band will perform from 9 to midnight.

Longtime Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says he will not seek a 6th term. White made the announcement at Democrat day at the Illinois State Fair. White says he has no preference as to who replaces him.
