51-year-old Eric L. Bryant of Carmi was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper lane usage after an accident last night on RT 45. Bryant was headed south on RT 45 just north of White County road 2325 N when he lost control and overturned his 2002 Dodge van. Bryant was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Fairfield city police arrested 24-year-old Darrel T. Martin late Tuesday in the 300 block of North 1st street. Martin was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender. Martin is being held in the Wayne County jail under $5000 bond. He had been released from the department of corrections on August 21st of this year, for the same offense.

Former White County Jailer Philip D. Lowery avoided a second jury trial on Monday by entering a guilty plea to a felony charge of aggravated battery of a child. Lowery, 40 of Carmi had originally been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 4-year-old. His first trial ended with the jury deadlocked and a mistrial declared. In return for the guilty plea Lowery was sentenced to 30 months of conditional discharge, pay a $1000 fine plus court costs, and submit a DNA sample and 6 months in the White County jail.

“Hats Off To The Working Class” is the theme of this year’s Grayville Days Celebration which starts tonight and will run through Sunday. The entertainment lineup this year will include the band Pink Cadillac and Matthew Alan Sneed and Osiella Friday evening; Back Paiges and Bueller on Saturday night; and Wesley Gray Ministries, The Ryan Daniel Band and The Duke Boys on Sunday night.

Two new events have been added to the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest Lineup. On Saturday the 19th there will be a 29 mile bike ride, which will start at the basketball court at French Park. Also Saturday night during the Lunar Beach house concert prizes will be awarded for the best Parrot head attire. The Fall Fun Fest begins Wednesday Sept. 16th.
