58-year-old Tina M. Sloan of Galatia was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when the car she was driving was hit by a train at a crossing in Galatia. Illinois State Police cited Sloan for disobeying a railroad signal.

28-year-old Heather I. Brown of Geff was arrested Tuesday evening on charges she was in possession of marijuana and some prescription drugs. She was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Elm Street around 6: 20 p.m.

Eric St. Ledger has announced his candidacy for Edwards County State’s Attorney. St. Ledger has practiced law in the area since graduating from the SIU law school in 2011. He is the son of Dr. Don and Kathy St. Ledger of Albion.

Former Carterville band director Todd Norrington has been sentenced to 150 days in jail for taking inappropriate pictures of an underage girl. Norrington was arrested after he snapped a cell phone picture up a 14-year-old girl’s shorts at a Goodwill store in Carbondale. He has also been placed on 30 months of probation.

No foul play is suspected in the death of a Marion man found in a room at the Windsor Oaks Inn in Grayville. 51-year-old Steven L. Ray was found next to his bed on Monday. The death appears to have been from natural causes.

The Fairfield Fall Fun Fest opens this evening with gospel music in the entertainment tent at 6:30. The Fun Fest Prince and Princess Contest will be at 6:30 Thursday night in the entertainment tent.
