43-year-old Kenneth E. Bryant of Albion was sentenced to four years in prison after violating his probation on a previous aggravated drunk driving conviction. Bryant had originally been placed on probation after he crashed his vehicle in a DUI accident, injuring a passenger. After violating the terms of probation, Judge David Frankland re-sentenced Bryant on the original offense of Aggravated DUI – a class-4 felony. In addition to prison time, Bryant was ordered to serve one year of mandatory supervised release and pay a total of $3,173 in mandatory fines, fees and court costs.

Fire heavily damaged the Sharon Musgrave home at S.E. 6th Street at East Douglas Street in Fairfield Friday morning. Fairfield Fire Chief Darin Hopper said a ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms caught fire and fell onto a mattress, catching the room on fire. Heavy smoke was reported throughout the structure. No one was home when the fire broke out a little 9 Friday morning. Fairfield firefighters remained on scene for a little less than an hour, helping eject smoke from the house and mop up debris from the blaze. No one was injured.

A retirement reception will be held Friday November 13th for Edwards County Circuit Clerk Patsy Taylor. The reception will be in the courthouse from 2pm – 4 pm with a group photo and remarks at 3:30pm.

43-year-old Dallas R. Broz of Fairfield was jailed on a charge of aggravated domestic battery. Broz is accused of beating up his girlfriend, 45-year-old Dawn M. Turner. According to Ms. Turner, Broze grabbed her by the throat, bit her arm and threw her to the floor. She was taken to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Broz was arrested shortly before 1 o’clock Friday morning.

Early Sunday morning is the end of Daylight Saving Time. That means before you go to bed tonight make sure that you roll your clocks back one hour. The change officially occurs at 2:00am Sunday morning. Today, Daylight Saving Time (DST) is used to save energy and make better use of daylight.
