Mt. Vernon Police have made an arrest in connection with an armed robbery Wednesday night at the Casey’s General Store at 617 Salem Road. Police say they took Harley D. Pulley of Mt. Vernon into custody Thursday evening. The investigation continues into the involvement of a second person as well as any connection to an armed robbery at the Casey’s store in Salem as well as previous robberies in Mt. Vernon.

28-year-old Demetrice Lockett of Mulberry Grove has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Mt. Vernon man early Friday morning in the parking lot of Party Liquors in Centralia. 26-year-old Leroy S. Roberson Jr. died at the SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room after the early morning fight which escalated into gunfire.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for much of Southern Illinois through Monday afternoon. Wayne, Edwards, Hamilton and Wabash counties are included in the Watch area. Total rainfall could range from 4-7 inches within the watch area.

Work is expected to begin soon on the replacement of two bridges on IL Rt. 130 between Grayville and Albion. Once work begins, traffic will be reduced to one lane. Officials say it could be next summer before the bridge replacement work is complete.
