22-year-old Lucas D. Johnson of Mcleansboro died early Saturday morning in a one-vehicle wreck just north of Opdyke. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Johnson was driving a pickup truck that left the Opdyke Lane near the intersection of Lynchberg Road and struck a tree. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the truck, 21-year-old Kalie Montgomery of Carterville was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis Hospital.

A brief police pursuit in Albion early Friday morning has landed a Fairfield man in jail. 30-year-old David A. Springmeyer remains in the White County Jail at Carmi for Edwards County authorities on a long list of charges related to the incident which allegedly involved Springmeyer crashing his car into a home in Albion, fleeing the scene and stealing another nearby vehicle before finally being taken into custody.

44-year-old Joshua Millman of West Salem has been sentenced to 114 months in federal prison on methamphetamine charges. He must also serve four years of supervised release and pay a fine of $600. Millman plead guilty to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in Clay and Richland Counties, Possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine in Clay County and Distribution of methamphetamine in Clay County.

A Mounds, IL teenager is now being charged as an adult in connection with the shooting of K-9 Officer Lyle Womack. Nigel L. Williams is charged with attempted first degree murder of a police officer and aggravated battery of a police officer with a firearm.
