Sarah Smith

 

s smith57-year-old Sarah Smith of Crossville died at 2:32 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after a short but hard fought battle with lung cancer.  Sarah was an Avon Representative and was a waitress and cook in various restaurants.  She owned and operated The Coffee Cup restaurant in Patoka from 2006 to 2009.  Sarah enjoyed baking and often lent her talent to baking cookies and cakes for various local fundraisers.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Jim; two daughters April (Jimmy) Jordan of Carmi  and Amber (Adam) Farrar of Wadesville, IN; a son Dennis Wade Turner Jr. of Newburgh, IN; a step-daughter Javonna (Drew) Bunting of Osage, IA; a step-son Shelby Smith of Yonkers, NY; two sisters Sharon Hoffman of Evansville, IN and Debbie Sheckles of Crossville; two brothers Joe Hoffman of Patoka, IN and Tom Hoffman of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren Seth, Aidan, Nevan, Brady, Chase, Gwendolyn, Whitney and Ariel; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Sarah Smith will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7th at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Carmi.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made in Sarah’s memory and her grandson Brady’s honor to Riding Hope, Inc., 331 David Drive, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.  Riding Hope is a hippotherapy  and adaptive riding program for children with special needs.  Memorials will be accepted at the Campbell Funeral Home.
