James D. “Jimmie” Cox – Fairfield

cox82-year-old Fairfield resident, James D. “Jimmie” Cox died at 1:30 Saturday morning at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.  A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he worked with his father for many years and later owned the Western Auto Store in Fairfield. In the U.S. Army, he was stationed Korea for two years and served four years in the 993rd APU Postal Reserves based in Fairfield. He was a member of the VFW Post 4535. He was also active in the Fairfield community, serving as a volunteer for 36 years on the Fairfield Fire Department and the Wayne County Ambulance Service. He was also active in the Civil Defense, which later became the Emergency Service and Disaster Agency.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife Rosemary Cox of Fairfield; two brothers, John and wife Marti Cox of Fairfield and Jerry Cox of Mill Shoals and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jimmie Cox will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Anthony Wayne Post 176 American Legion and VFW Post 4535 of Fairfield.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 until the time of service at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the Way-Fair Activity Department or the Fairfield Volunteer Firemen and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.
