Max L. Scott – Fairfield

Max L. Scott, 93, of Fairfield died on Sunday, November 27, at 4:24PM at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit.  He was born in Goldengate on December 12, 1922 to Forrest Coats and Ada (Hurt) Scott.  Max became a Fairfield resident after discharge from the US Army Air Corp in 1945. During WWII, he served as a Staff Sargent in the Pentagon’s information processing section in Washington DC. Upon his return to the Fairfield area, he accepted employment in the Airtex Data Processing Department, retiring after 37 years.

He was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Fairfield Country Club. As a golf fan, he traveled to several PGA and LPGA tournaments around the country.

In retirement, he was an active volunteer at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital, serving more than 2,800 hours. He was also a 64-year member of the First Methodist Church in Fairfield, and partnered with others to deliver lunches through the church’s Meals-on-Wheels program

Survivors include a son Michael and daughter-in-law Connie of Champaign; daughter Pat Korbus of Austin TX; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a myriad of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Per Max’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday December 5 at 2PM at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Monday at 1PM until the time of service.  Internment of ashes will be at Maple Hill Cemetery with full Military rites.

Memorials may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society or the Wounded Warriors Project.
