Jami and Niki Roethe have been named the 2017 Kiwanis Christmas Parade Grand Marshals.  The Roethes operate Uniquely Rustique on Main Street in Fairfield.

Fairfield physician Dr. Chris Ballard will be the featured speaker at this year’s Veterans Day observance this Saturday at Maple Hill Cemetery.  The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

45-year-old Roger D. Groves of Sims has been jailed on a felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender.  Groves is listed as a sex offender based on his conviction in Wayne County for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl.  At the time of the offense, Groves was 33.

25-year-old Kyle D. Buchanan of Carmi has been sentenced to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to a class-2 felony charge of burglary. In pleading guilty, Buchanan admitted he burglarized the CVS Pharmacy in Carmi on July 8.

Anna M. Grant, 23 of Carmi has been sentenced to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to a class-3 felony charge of aggravated battery.  Grant’s probation on the initial charge was revoked after her arrest for using drugs, failure to report to the probation office and for theft.

33-year-old Tiffany L. Weidenburner of Carmi has been sentenced to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to a class-3 felony charge of forgery and another 2 ½ years in prison for being in possession of methamphetamine.  Weidenburner’s probation on the forgery case was revoked after she was arrested for being in possession of meth.
