Carol Joan “Jojo” Galbreath Carter – Fairfield

89-year-old Fairfield resident, Carol Joan “Jojo” Galbreath Carter, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, August 18th at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  She worked alongside her husband Newt at Carter’s Cleaners for over 40 years.  She was a member of the Fairfield First Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge.  Joan taught Sunday School, led the bell choir and directed the Life Singers Teen Choir.

Joan was born September 18, 1928 in Arthur, Illinois to Roy and Inez (Lawrence) Galbreath.  She married E.N. “Newt” Carter on June 1, 1947 at Newton, IL.

Surviving are two sons, Royce and wife Becky Carter and Gary and wife Terri Carter both of Fairfield; four grandsons, Nick Carter of Fairfield, David and wife Julia Carter of Bloomington, IL, and Nate and wife Callie Carter of Fairfield, and Eric and wife Merrin Carter of Plainfield, IN; nine great-grandchildren, RE, Jude, Blair, Neve, David, Hayden, Brooke, Kennedy and Knox; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, George Delno and a sister, Jane Smith.

Funeral services for Carol Joan Carter will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21st at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 20th at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.  Memorials may be made to Wabash Christian Village in Carmi and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield, which is in charge of the arrangements.
