Moses Gray – Fairfield

101 year old Fairfield resident, Moses Gray, passed away 5:00 a. m. Sunday morning, Sept 9, 2018 at the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

 

Moses was born July 12, 1917 at Burnt Prairie, Illinois, the son of Harry and Lulu (Musgrave) Gray.  A veteran of World War II, Moses serviced in the Army Air Corp from August 1941 to Oct. 1946, as a sergeant in the 301st Bomb Group, 419 Squadron, where he was a crew chief mechanic on B 17’s.  Moses married Wilma L. Snuffin on Oct 23, 1946 in Fairfield, IL.

 

Moses retired after 28 years with Wabash Valley.  After retirement, he became a well-known golfer at the Fairfield Public Golf Course.  He was a member of the Fairfield 1st. Baptist Church, Fairfield Public Golf Course and the American Legion.

 

Funeral services for Moses Gray will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by the Anthony Wayne post 176 of the American Legion and Wayne Memorial post 4535 of the VFW.  Visitation will be held Friday, 12:00 (noon) to service time at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit in recognition of the professional and compassionate care they provide.  (envelopes will be available at the funeral home.)

 

Moses Gray is survived by a son , Bob & wife Cindy Gray of Palm Harbor, Fla.; 3 daughters,  Sherry Jarvis of Estero, Fla, Joan Gross of Wheeling, Illinois and Marti Gray of San Diego, CA;  3 sisters,  Ruth Puckett of Fairfield, Il, Helen & husband Jim Book of Batavia, Il and Marqueta Stewart of Mt. Vernon, Il; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Wilma,  his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and one son, John Borah.
