Henry J. Guinn – Carmi

Henry Joseph Guinn, 95, of Carmi, Illinois, died Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, Illinois.  He was born February 18, 1923, in Phillips Township, White County, Illinois, the son of Thomas and Rhoda (Hooser) Guinn.  He was married to Georgia Lee (Cleveland) Guinn, and she preceded him in death on November 24, 2002.

 

Henry was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company.  He also worked for a number of years in oil exploration business as well as farming.  He was a long-time member of the New Beginnings Church of God in Carmi.  He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.  He was a past member of the VFW and American Legion.

 

Survivors include his sister, Ferrel Jacobs of Crossville, Illinois; daughter Margaret Matheny of West Monroe, Louisiana; sons John (Reba) Guinn of Crossville, Richard (Carol) Guinn of Upper Gwynedd, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Samantha Jerry of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Billy Guinn of Crossville, Guinn Hinkie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Clare Hyams of New York City, New York; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter Martha Kaye Guinn; grandson Darrin Gammel; brothers Gene and Samuel Guinn; and infant sister Susie Guinn.

 

Visitation and funeral are Monday, September 17, 2018, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi.  Visitation is at 11:00 am, and funeral is at 1:00 pm.  Officiants for the funeral service are Michael Fields and Michael Le Buhn. Burial with military rites will be in Stokes Cemetery near Crossville.

 

Memorials may be made to Crossville Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel.
