L. Vernon Atkins, 85 of Fairfield died at 10:10 PM, Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Aperion Care in Fairfield.Born on September 3, 1933 in Conneaut, OH to Arthur and Thelma (Eccleston) Atkins, he was a professor with a doctorate of education and in later years was a counselor. He was also a member of the Wesleyan Church of Fairfield
Vern is survived by his wife of 63 years Lois Atkins of Fairfield, Sons Dan (Jo Lynne) Atkins of Fairfield and Doug (Sherry) Atkins of Magnolia, NC, daughters Diane (Stanley) Vaughan of Fairfield and Denise Atkins of Staunton, IL, 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 8 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Deborah Atkins, and a sister Thelma Mae Proper.
Funeral services for Vern Atkins will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, September 20th at the Wesleyan Church of Fairfield, with burial to follow in Union Cemetery. Memorials in his honor may be made to the Wesleyan Church or Gideons International. Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
