Carolyn A. Weger – New Iberia, Louisiana

Mrs. Carolyn Aline Weger, daughter of Emerial Lee Owen, Sr. and Leona Virginia Mason Owen, and step daughter of Dedie Elizabeth Lanham Owen, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Legacy Ranch Memory Care in Midland, TX surrounded by family. Carolyn was born September 6, 1933 in Wayne County Illinois. She attended the public schools of Wayne County and was a graduate of Lockyear Business College in Evansville, IN. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ.

She was united in holy matrimony to Richard Lee Weger of Cisne, IL on October 1, 1955. Shortly after, Richard’s job with Texaco relocated them from their longtime Illinois home to New Iberia, LA, where they raised three children. Her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Richard, preceded her in death on February 24, 2005.

Carolyn was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, New Iberia, LA for much of her adult life, where she served as Treasurer for many years. She and Richard loved their church family, investing their lives in the church. She faithfully studied the Holy Bible, preparing bible lessons which she taught on Sundays. Carolyn had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing songs to our Lord in her church choir. Up to the very last months of her life she would always respond to a hymn, humming the tune. She continued to witness in her later years in the assisted living homes which she lived.

Carolyn found enjoyment with Oubre’s Lumber of New Iberia, where she served as bookkeeper for many years. Carolyn and Richard lived a quiet and fruitful life, well lived to the very end. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the trees that she loved so much, and, although her body has passed to heaven, her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Dennis L. (Karen) Weger of Plainwell, MI and Damon R. (Senette) Weger of Midland, TX. She is survived by Cecile Haley (widow of son- Kevin Weger) of Prairieville, LA; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Richard Owen; three sisters, Virginia Bashore, Barbara DeWitt, and Shirley Simpson; and a host of nephews and nieces.
