Hal Ray Nelson, 79, of Carmi, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, Illinois. He was born June 30, 1939, in Carmi, the son of Frank and Catharine (Hargraves) Nelson.
Hal was a retired boiler maker. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working.
Survivors include sons Robert (Tracy) Nelson of Evansville, Indiana, Jason (Bonnie) Nelson of Vincennes, Indiana; daughter Lela Rae (David) Delong of Carmi; brother Wayne Nelson of Carmi; sister Patricia (Jerry) Woodrow of Carmi; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Cheryl Nelson; sisters Lela Henson and Becky O’Neal; and brother Ed Nelson.
In keeping with Hal’s wishes, his remains were cremated. A visitation and memorial service will be Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is 1 pm and memorial service is at 2 pm. Burial will be at a later date in Centerville Cemetery.
