Louis R. Savage – Fairfield

82 year old Fairfield resident, Louis R. Savage passed away Friday (May 17) at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Illinois

Louis was born September 30, 1936 at Burnt Prairie, Il to Pender and Mary (O’dell) Savage.  At a young age, he joined the Liberty Baptist Church where he was baptized on September 26, 1948.  He attended the Burnt Prairie Grade School and graduated from the Mills Prairie High School in 1954.

On August 14, 1976 he married Shirley Walters Meritt.  Shirley preceded him in death on January 7, 2014.

Louis was a retired teamster of local 710.  A lifelong supporter of the working people and a proud supported of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Louis was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.  Louis attended the Gospel Assembly Church in Mill Shoals, Il

Louis Savage is survived by 3 daughters, Debra (Joe) Lepe of Palos Hills, Il, Diana (John) Masella  of Western Springs, Il, Janice Mills of Decatur, Alabama and one son Michael Meritt of Nolanville, TX;  one brother Pender “Red” (Velda) Savage of Fairfield, Il and one sister Valeda (Ben) White of Port Orange, Fla.  13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, 1 daughter Donna and one brother Charles (Shack) Savage.

Funeral services for Louis R. Savage will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with Brother John Reed officiating.  Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday evening, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 by Fairfield Masonic Lodge #206.   Memorials may be given to the Fairfield Masonic Lodge Supper Club or to Fairfield Memorial Hospital employee of the month club.
