Lowell “Newt” Weiss, 88, of Enfield, passed away Saturday morning May 18, 2019 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. He was born February 26, 1931 in Enfield, the son of William L. and Naomi (Miller) Weiss. He married Mary Alice Oliver on April 24, 1952 in Springerton and she preceded him in death on December 29, 2016.
Lowell was a lifelong farmer. He served as Enfield Township Road Commissioner for 18 years. Along the way he worked as a mechanic and also in the Oilfield. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Carmi V.F.W. He was an Elder at the Enfield Christian Church. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, but most importantly he loved playing games with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, David (Carol), Bruce (Kathy) and Scott (Karen) Weiss; his daughter Lisa (Jarrett King) Lumb; Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Dustin and Denton Weiss, Farrah Taylor, Whitney Lumb Hobbs, Courtney Lumb McArthy, Jennifer Weiss Naas, Jordan Weiss and Caleb and Caite Weiss. Fourteen great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, William L. Weiss; sisters, Joan Williams, Margaret Holder and Bernice Cox; also his son-in-law, Terry Lumb.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Tuesday May 21, 2019 at the Enfield Christian Church with Matt Sutman officiating. Burial will be in Enfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday May 20, 2019 at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Carmi American Legion and V.F.W.
