Rev. Dr. William B. Tomberlin – McLeansboro

91-year-old Rev. Dr. William B. Tomberlin went home to be with his Lord on May 20. He was born in Nashville, GA on June 23, 1927 to Bernace and Susie (Brantley) Tomberlin.

He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, JoAnn Tomberlin of McLeansboro, IL; two sons: Larry (Valerie) Tomberlin of Albuquerque, NM and Victor E. (Laura) Tomberlin of Ponte Vedra, FL; daughter, Judith (Stacey) Crawford of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Conna (Tim), Scott (Brooke), Amanda (Vic), Lauren (Andrew) and Jon; three great-grandchildren and one brother, James Tomberlin of Cairo, GA.
Bill served as an attorney in the Air Force and retired after 21 years of service.  He then attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and followed his God given passion to Pastor as his second career, serving churches in Eldorado, Nine Mile and McLeansboro, IL.  He was listed in Who’s Who in Religion in 1976 and 1977.
Bill was a master gardener and loved gardening.  He was a member of Rural Partners and the Beautification Task Force.  He also taught seminary extension classes for several years at Saline Baptist Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Rev. Russell Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 23 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  He will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO on Friday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m.  Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Eldorado or the First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro.
