Wilma F. Lewis – La Porte, Indiana

95-year-old Wilma F. Lewis of La Porte, Indiana, died on Wednesday, May 22 at La Porte Hospital.

Wilma was born in Mc Leansboro, IL, on January 6, 1924 to Harry G. and Nora M. (Gibbs) Gunter.

On May 25, 1943, she married Howard A. Lewis in St. Louis, MO.  Surviving are her beloved children, Ronald (Norma) Lewis and Robert (Edwina) Lewis, both of La Porte, IN; four grandchildren, Ronald A. Lewis,  Pamela (Brian) Dolan, David (Erin) Lewis, and Lisa (Tom) Typpi; seven great-grandchildren, Jaclyn and Lianna Lewis, Scott (Brittany) Typpi, Seth Typpi, Samantha (Craig) Stidham Fiona Dolan and Ava Pumroy; four great, great-grandchildren, Jerzey, Paizley, and Eazton Stidham and Ava Typpi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters; and four brothers.

Wilma worked as a seamstress on clothing and upholstery.  She was a member of First Church of God.  Wilma enjoyed canning, cooking, sewing, playing cards, especially Skip-Bo, and watching her great-grandchildren “steal” rice crispy treats.  The grandchildren especially enjoyed teasing her about her “blue” hair.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  Visitation will be held Sunday, May 26 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Gholson Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to First Church of God: Belize Church Mission, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
