Deborah Lee McKay – Olney

Deborah Lee (Inskeep) McKay, 69, a resident of Olney, Illinois and formerly of Albion, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her residence in Olney on May 21, 2019.

Debbie was born May 11, 1950 in Olney and raised in Albion. Debbie was one of three children born to the late Joseph Howard and Dorothy Rae Inskeep. Her nickname in school was “Lee” and she graduated from Edwards County High School in 1968.

Debbie retired as a special education teacher for the East Richland School District after 32 years of teaching. It was during her time at Central School that she wanted to adopt a child. Debbie and her mother, Rae, bravely traveled overseas to Colombia to adopt a little three year old girl named Luz Dary. Debbie named her Rachel after her mother’s name, Rae. Debbie provided a life of love and adventure; she enjoyed traveling with her family to Daytona Beach and California, supporting Rachel’s creativity and attending her sporting events. She was also known as “Aunt Deb” and would host some of the family holiday dinners and reunions.

In October of 2001, Debbie married Dennis McKay.  The couple greatly enjoyed sitting out by the pool drinking wine and Jack Daniels, respectively. They also listened to Oldies but Goodies music, planting their vegetable garden, owning miniature schnauzers/furbabies and going out to the local restaurant for the same meal of salmon and steak.

Debbie was in the middle of a big home renovation project in Bloomington, Illinois so she could spend even more time with her grandson, Oscar. She was known as his “Grammy” and he always looked forward to seeing her at his house to play race cars and build with Lincoln Logs.

Debbie is survived by her daughter and grandson, Rachel (Joey) Kuenstler and Oscar of Bloomington; spouse, Dennis McKay of Olney; and one brother, Phillip Inskeep of Olney; five nieces and nephews; and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Dorothy Rae Inskeep, and her brother Rodney Inskeep.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held Friday, May 31, 2019, at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m. Immediately following, interment will be at Zion Hill, a family cemetery, located west of Albion.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Albion and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home of Albion, who are in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.nalesfuneralhome.com.
