Mary E. Maxey – Bluford

Mary E. Maxey, 96, of Bluford, Illinois passed away at 8:10 P.M. September 7, 2019 at Mount Vernon Healthcare Center. She was born November 7, 1922 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late James Robert and Bertha L. (Richardson) Bundy. Mary married John David Breeze on June 1940. They were blessed with four years of marriage before he preceded her in death serving his country on September 23, 1944. She then married Noble L. Maxey on April 18, 1950 in Bluford, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly fifty-seven years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 11, 2007.

Mary is survived by her son, William Dean “Bill” Breeze and wife, Marilyn of Wayne City, Illinois; daughters,  Lois Johnson of Pecatonic, Illinois and Melba LaFever and husband, Charles of Belle Rive, Illinois; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine  great-grandchildren; thirty-five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Carl O. Johnson; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Morrison Bundy, Owen Bundy, Burrel Bundy, and James Bundy; and sisters, Naomi Scott, Lois Costano, and Marjorie Faulk.

Mary worked as a store clerk at Osborn Grocery in Bluford, Illinois. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and served as secretary. Mary sang on the radio on WMIX and listened to Gospel music. She enjoyed cooking and playing the piano. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them greatly. She will be missed by all that she knew.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Don Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Rural, Bluford. Memorials may be made to Oakdale Cemetery.
