Geneva Sloan Nipper – McLeansboro

99-year-old Geneva Sloan Nipper of McLeansboro, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, October 17 at Hamilton Memorial Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in McLeansboro. She was a teacher and retired from the Hamilton County School System. Geneva was an educator for most of her life and loved to be with children, especially her grandchildren. She was a self-professed Historian of Flannigan Township.

Geneva was born on October 15, 1920 in Flannigan Township to Charles Ralph Sloan and Jane (Rogers) Sloan. She married George “Scrap” Nipper in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1962.

Survivors include her son: Bill Nipper and wife Marian of Ewing, Illinois; three grandsons: Gabe Nipper (wife Amy) of Dale, Brandon Nipper (wife Cia) of Los Angeles, California and Eli Nipper of Harrisburg. two granddaughters: Carla Gunter (husband Brice) of Ewing and Jara Pieper (husband Jeff) of Ewing; five great-grandchildren: Bryla and Stella Gunter, Jetson, Jaelen & Jagger Pieper; a sister: Hattie Sloan of McLeansboro; two brothers: Roger Sloan (wife LaDora) of Mishawaka, Indiana and Jerry Sloan (wife Tammy) of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters-in-law: Linda Sloan of Hallsville, Missouri and Shirley Sloan of McLeansboro. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son George, sisters June Zick and Shirley Irwin; four brothers: Dwight, James, John, and Charles “Buck” Sloan.

Graveside services for Geneva Sloan Nipper will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 21 at Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. Those attending are asked to go directly to the Cemetery. Reverend Brad Sloan will be officiating. Burial will be at Oddfellows Cemetery.
