Dona Joan Maas – West Salem

87-year-old Dona Joan Maas of West Salem, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5 at Carle RMH in Olney.

She was born on May 5, 1932 in West Salem to Dale and Vera (Thompson) Feldman. She married Donald Maas on November 25, 1951 at the Moravian Church in West Salem and he survives.

Dona was a homemaker and worked at Champion Labs for 25 years. She thoroughly enjoyed singing and quilting. She was a member of the Moravian Church, and the Moravian traditions were of utmost importance to her. She enjoyed fellowship and reaching out to others. Dona was a strong woman; a loving, caring, and supportive mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her true pride and joy.

She leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by her husband of 68 years, Don of West Salem; her daughter, Billie (Henry) Ortiz of Flower Mound, TX; her four grandchildren: Jill (Chad) Greenwood of Olney, IL, Sara Lupfer of Poseyville, IN, Amy (Troy) Kitley of Flora, IL, and Tawny Ortiz of Dallas, TX; her ten great-grandchildren: Jace, Kristen, and Carley Greenwood, Emma, Halle, and Landree Kitley, Kennedy Hallam, Camden and Carson Lupfer, and Scarlette Flemmons; and her brother, Marion “Sonny” Feldman of Euless, TX.

Dona was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter and son-in-law Debbie Colvin and John Colvin; and her sister, Saundra Neel.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hauser Room of the West Salem Moravian Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, January 9 at 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Moravian Church are encouraged. Envelopes will be available at the service.
