Odelia Karcher – McLeansboro

Odelia Karcher, age 94 of McLeansboro, was born February 19, 1925, and departed this life on January 18 at 5:10 p.m.

Daughter of Thomas Katie (Lorenz) Karcher, she married Robert E. Karcher on November 22, 1945. She was a homemaker and a faithful caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She set a great example and always tried to keep the family together. Mother of six, three sons and three daughters: Priscilla Holsey (Bill), Kathleen Bennett (Larry), Marietta Holsey (Bob), (Robert) Keith, Meinrad, and John Karcher (Tena). She is survived by two sons, two daughters, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Keith, daughter Marietta, five brothers, three sisters, and two grandsons: Shane and Adam Holsey. Odelia loved music, singing, dancing, and playing cards. She did a lot of sewing for the family. She made her own clothes and also for the three daughters, as well as some dresses for mother and mother-in-law.

Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s Catholic Chapel in Dahlgren at 10 .m. on Thursday. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund of the St. John Cemetery of Dahlgren or Hospice SSM of Mt. Vernon.
