Dickie R. Young – Clay City

78-year-old Dickie Ray Young of Clay City, passed away early Friday morning, February 21 at his home in the care of his loving family.

He was born April 26, 1941, in Flora, and was the son of John Wesley and Beulah Ann (Wathan) Young. He was united in marriage to Frances K. Goings on August 8, 1959, in Clay City, and together they shared 46 years of marriage until she passed away July 5, 2006.

Dick’s life and love were his family, faith, and the oilfield. The people he considered family often extended to anyone who stepped through the door of his home, and he answered to “grandpa” from so many beyond his own grandchildren. Over the years, he worked for C.D. Reed, Doc & Tom Abner, and Shelby Britton. He went on to become a production man for Tandem Investments, and later retired from DakFam, Inc. He was a skilled welder, and his family will never forget his fondness for a variety of Little Debbie Snack Cakes . Dick’s spirit of faith, personal mission, and belief in a “new beginning” were a cornerstone of his life. Dick and Frances were longtime members of the Clay City First Baptist Church where Dick served as Deacon.

He is survived by 3 children: Charles “Chuck” Young of Clay City, Richard Young of Flora, and Teresa (Leslye) Young of Foley, AL; daughter-in-law: Lori Young of Marion, KY; grandchildren: Jill Young (Mark Lewis) of Clay City, Misty (Matt) Lindeman of Clay City, Mandy Sullens (Cody Jay) of Cisne, Heather (Caleb) Middleton of Kinmundy, Jessica Young (Travis Wilson) of Clay City, Sarah (Brandon) Tinsley of Marion, KY, Karl (Cheyenne) Young of Flora, John Robert Young of Olney, Steven Long of Clay City, Nathan (Brianne) Young of Clay City, Chris (Sierra) Young of Flora, Jordan (Kelly) Taylor of Republic, MO, and Mason Taylor (Charleigh) of Independence, KS; 36 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 1 brother: Eldon (Freida) Young of Watson; and 2 sisters: Kay Zech of Austin, TX, and Sue (John) Gay of Claremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Tom Young, Dean Young, William “Bill” Wathan, Althea “Dude” Guinn, Bonnie Hayes, and Nita Stanley.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with expenses and will be accepted through the funeral home.
