Chelsi Eileen Johnson, 19, of Grayville, Illinois, died Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was born May 26, 2000, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Mark Edward Johnson and Katie Eileen (Butler) Hawkins.
Chelsi was a restaurant hostess. In her younger years, she participated in pageants and was a past Little Miss Grayville and Junior Miss Grayville. She loved to sing, and played softball and volleyball. She enjoyed visiting haunted houses and dressing up for the occasion. But she cherished most the time spent with her son.
Survivors include parents Mark Johnson and Katie Hawkins; step-parents Jeff Hawkins and Samantha Tooley; son Griffyn Persinger; brother Sawyer Johnson; sisters Kamille Johnson, Devin Fewkes, Annabell Johnson, Arlana Johnson, Aydreana Gill; grandparents Tony and Sharon Butler, Sara and Matt Chiarello, Bev and Tom Johnson, and Rita and Gary Glover.
Due to the corona virus pandemic, and the restrictions imposed by the State of Illinois Governor and the Center For Disease Control, Chelsi’s remains were cremated and a memorial service will be later when the restrictions are lifted.
Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville is in charge of all arrangements.
