Marilyn Sue Pierce – Albion

76 year old Albion resident, Marilyn Sue Pierce passed away Saturday afternoon, April 11, 2020 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.

Marilyn was born November 9, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana.

She was born to Thurman and Hazel (Bunting) Pierce and was the proud granddaughter of Joseph F. and Grace (Briscoe) Bunting, Fannie (Putney), Elmer and Estella (McKibben) Pierce. Marilyn was a graduate of Edwards County High School (class of 1961) and attended one year at the newly opened Wabash Valley Community College in Mt. Carmel before transferring to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. After college she began working for the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. as a Legal Technician, maintaining and controlling the Commission records receiving many awards for her extraordinary dedication to duty and services to the Commission. She became a Supervisor in her Department in 1983. She lived in the Landover, Maryland area for over forty years, retiring from the agency in March of 2004 after 30 years of honorable service. Marilyn served various volunteer organizations in her leisure time, from being President of the Deaf Telecommunicators of Greater Washington, Inc. for over ten years to working with the local police department and the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority when they were trying to make their telephone systems accessible to the deaf community.

After retirement and returning to Albion, Marilyn loved to travel going to many states with Hawaii being her most relaxing adventure of all. She would take courses at the community colleges in computers and accounting. She was an avid animal lover having adopted numerous canines and felines over the years. She loved working in her yard, garden, and with computers. Marilyn was a faithful
member of the Albion First Christian Church.

Marilyn leaves behind an aunt, Helen Jansen of Mt. Carmel; Dear friends, Nancy Abbott of Albion; Dennis and Lori Splittorf of  Albion, several cousins and her faithful Golden Retriever, Brittney. Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Private graveside services were held at Graceland Cemetery in Albion on Friday morning, April 17, 2020 with Bro. Brian Shinkle officiating. Burial was next to her parents.
