Helen Maurine Toombs – formerly of Fairfield

Helen Maurine Toombs, age 85, formerly of Fairfield, died on Sunday, August 30, at 8:52 a.m., at BRIA Health Services of Belleville in Belleville. Maurine was born on May 14, 1935, to Dale and Hannah (Walters) Fansler in Fairfield, Illinois. She married Bob Toombs on October 19, 1956 and he survives. She worked at Airtex, for Nation Oil, and for Alva Davis Oil Company before she and Bob relocated to Swansea, Illinois. Maurine had been a receptionist for various Dentists and Chiropractors in the Belleville area before retirement. She was a member of the High Mount Schools Mother Club, was a Cub Scout den mother, spent many hours volunteering at the local elementary schools helping the teachers in the classroom, but her biggest delight was being a devoted grandmother to grandson, Jacob “JT”.

Maurine is survived by her husband Bob; one son David (Kelly) Toombs and one grandson JT Toombs of St. Louis; three brothers, Lowell (Irene) Fansler, Ray Fansler, and Roy (Geraldine) Fansler all of Fairfield and one sister Norma (Sherrill) Staley of Mill Shoals, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Graveside services for Maurine will be held Thursday, Sept. 3rd, at 10:30am at Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Bro. Wilford Musgrave will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made out to the Mill Shoals Ruritans and will be accepted at the graveside or send to Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.
