Irene Ferguson – Wayne City

101-year-old Irene Ferguson of Wayne City, died at 7:40PM on Monday, October 12 at the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield. Irene was born in Orchard Township in Wayne County, IL to Roy and Mary (Lee) Sandy. She married Euil Ferguson on October 19, 1935.

Irene had been a faithful member of Arrington Prairie “Bailey” Church in Wayne City since 1943. She served her church as a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and Ladies Aid.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Rosann (Jack) Angle of Channahon, IL & Audrey (Eddie) Miles of Sims, as well as four grandchildren, Christina (Marty) Campbell of Sims, Cheryl (Chuck) Byers of Channahon, IL, Kevin (Amy) Angle of Rockdale, IL & Karen (Brent) Sutton of Fairfield. She is also survived by a brother, Bill Sandy of Mio, MI, a sister, Bev Norling of St. Helen, MI, six great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Paul & Harold Sandy, and a sister, Alta Mae Snable.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 11AM, Saturday, October 17 at the Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. The family has requested those attending services wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Irene’s honor may be made to Arrington Prairie “Bailey” Church or Thomason Cemetery and will be accepted at Bailey Church or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield which is in charge of the arrangements.
