Jesse Earl King – Mill Shoals

Longtime Mill Shoals resident, Jesse Earl King, 91, passed away Tuesday morning, November 17, 2020 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi.

Earl was born October 4, 1929 to Jesse L. and Flossie (Parson) King in Burnt Prairie Township. He Married Wilma Jean Vaughan on Oct. 23, 1952 and they enjoyed 63 years together before her passing on October 27, 2015. Earl was a veteran of the US Navy, having served on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown during the Korean conflict. Earl retired from the US Postal service after serving as the Mill Shoals Postmaster for a number of years. Earl was also a long time farmer, specializing in raising popcorn. He was a member of the Mill Shoals Missionary Baptist Church and the Mill Shoals Ruritans.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories are sons, Jesse and John (Sherry) King all of rural Fairfield, daughter, Julie (Terry) Prince of Elkview, West Virginia, brother, Bob King of Carmi, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Noel Ray Vaughan, sister-in-law, Judy (Gary) McCormick, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Earl in death were his parents, wife Wilma, daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Carl Wheeler, grandson, Aaron Wheeler, and infant brother, Elvis Ray King.

Graveside services for Earl King will be held Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 11:00am at Shrewsbury Cemetery in Mill Shoals. Military honors will be conducted by Anthony Wayne Post 176 American Legion and Wayne Memorial Post 4535 VFW. There will be no visitation. Friends and family are to go directly to the cemetery. Please follow the CDC guidelines with social distancing and the wearing of masks. Memorials may be made to Wabash Christian Village’s Activity Fund.
