Geraldine “Gerry” Johnson – Fairfield

Geraldine “Gerry” Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma, found eternal peace on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at the age of 100.  She was born in Fairfield, IL on December 17, 1919 to Carl and Clara Sarks, who preceded her in death. She married Oscar “Rabbit” Johnson on October 24, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1968.

Gerry has been a lifelong resident of Fairfield.  She graduated from FCHS in the class of 1938 and enjoyed a long career at L.J. Keith Millworks.

She and her late husband Oscar “Rabbit” Johnson raised three sons: Joe (Sue) of Aurora, Illinois, Ed (Cheryl) of Chenoa, Illinois and Bob (Katherine) of Tyler, Texas. In addition to her sons, she is survived by 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

We take comfort in knowing her life was full and well lived.  Her independence fostered her desire to see and do new things.  She was active in a number of Fairfield organizations:  Beta Eta Sorority, Hula Red Hatters, BPW, and Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Ministry.  She enjoyed craft type hobbies and loved to travel.  She visited all 50 states and several countries!

Although she will be missed, we know she is now enjoying eternal life, looking down on us with a smile.  She was blessed with a long life and we are blessed to have been a part of it.

Graveside services for Gerry Johnson will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Friends, family and anyone that would like to attend are welcome and are to go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation.  Please follow the CDC guidelines of social distancing and the wearing of masks as we honor Gerry’s time with us and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gerry’s name to the Fairfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield which is in charge of the arrangements. Fond memories and condolences can be left for the family at www.nalesfuneralhome.com.
