Iris Tennes – Mt. Carmel

92-year-old Iris Tennes of Mt. Carmel, died Monday, November 30 at her residence with her children by her side.

She was born December 29, 1927, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Henry and Stella (Allen) Calverley. Iris graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1945. On October 5, 1946, she married Christian L. “Chris” Tennes at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Iris was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, always showing unending love and support. Her life’s work involved all aspects of farm operations. She will be remembered for her caring and sweet disposition by all who knew her.

Left to cherish Iris’ memory are her children Virginia (David) Porter of Conroe, Texas, Patricia (David) Cavanaugh of Fairfield, Illinois, Martha (Gail) Hughes of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Margaret (Robert) Williams of Brentwood, Tennessee and Joe Tennes of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Doug Porter, Allison Wells, Sara Vandiver, Eric Hering, Traci Kennard, Amanda Quick, Sarah Ewing, Brad Hughes, Brooke Tate, Laura Gray, Charles Williams and Caroline Williams; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Preceding Iris in death is her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Hering; and brother, Charles Calverley.

There will be a private rosary and mass with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
