Robert E. Wellen – Piopolis

86-year-old Robert E. Wellen, a resident of Piopolis, died Thursday, January 21 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Hamilton County, IL on December 11, 1934 to Herman and Isabella (Wilhelm) Wellen.  Robert married Pauline Schuster on November 24, 1966 and she survives.  Robert was a United States Army veteran, life long farmer and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis.
Robert is survived by his wife Pauline Wellen of Piopolis; son Ronald and wife Tonya Wellen of Dahlgren; three grandchildren: Adam, Ashlee and Adlee Wellen; siblings Marion Wellen and Gloria Meschnark, both of McLeansboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carrie Schuster.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis with Fr. Slawomir Ptak conducting the funeral mass.  Visitation will be Saturday, January 23 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with a Rosary service at 10:00 a.m.  He will be laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Piopolis with Graveside Military Honors performed by American Legion Post 106 and a U.S. Army Honors Team.  Memorial donations may be made to the Hamilton County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis.
