37-year-old Douglas B. Shelton, formerly of Grayville, died Monday, February 1 at Core Nursing and Rehabilitation in Dale, Indiana. He was born March 22, 1983, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Gary W. and Cheri D. (Goldman) Shelton.
Doug was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grayville. He had a passion for music, and he enjoyed watching all types of sports, in particular, the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals, Duke University men’s basketball, Notre Dame football, and NBA Pelicans. In 1996, when the Grayville Junior High won the State of Illinois baseball tournament, Doug was their first baseman.
Survivors include his father, Gary Shelton; grandmother Grace Shelton, both of Grayville; son Trajon Shelton of Albion, Illinois; brother Christopher (Kellie) Shelton of Carmi, Illinois; nieces Allison Shelton and Chloe Shelton; and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Cheri Shelton; grandfather Walter Shelton; grandparents Travis and Wanda Goldman.
Visitation and funeral are Friday, February 5, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Visitation is at 11 am and funeral is at 1 pm. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
