Richard B. “Steve” Clay – Evansville, IN

84-year-old Richard B. “Steve” Clay of Evansville, died on Tuesday, May 11. He was born January 3, 1937 in Fairfield, to the late Richard E. and Mildred (Johnson) Clay.

He worked with his dad at Industrial Credit finance business in Fairfield, and later owned Clay Furniture for several years. He was an elder at First Christian Church in Fairfield and attended Sunday School for 32 years without missing a Sunday. He also taught Sunday School there for many years. Steve was a board member for 25 years with Cisne State Bank, a zoning officer for the City of Fairfield for several years and served with the Jail and Prison Ministry for 10 years. He was a current member of Living Word Christian Church in Newburgh, IN and had taught Sunday School there. He enjoyed woodworking, golf and feeding the birds.

Steve is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Clay; daughters, Kimberly Swinford (Wade) and Sheri Lavine (Tom), and grandchildren, Brogan Lavine, Darian Lavine and Jordyn Swinford.

A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 14 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Pastor Mike Claypool. Friends may visit Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Maple Hill Cemetery, Fairfield.
