83-year-old Bertis Gene Knight of Carmi, died on Tuesday, July 13 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on March 30, 1938, in Grayville, the son of Royal and Mary “Polly” (Landingham) Knight. Bertis married Sandra Kay Henson on March 10, 2005. He owned and operated and later retired from Ideal Pest Control in Carmi. Bertis enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Bertis is survived by his wife Sandra Kay Knight of Carmi; his children, Becky (Steven) Calderman, Regina (Doug) Stricklin, Linda (Tom) Poole, and Franklin Mecum Jr.; grandchildren, Cassandra Kohlhause, Lucinda Calderman, Clark Calderman, Grant Stricklin, Jared (Holly) Stricklin, Valerie Reum, Joshua (Melissa) Owen and Jacob Poole; great-grandchildren, Zander Calderman, Corinne Calderman, Daniel Reum, Lila Reum, Nathan Reum, Mei-Lin Reum, Leah Owen, and Micah Owen; siblings, Loyal Knight, Garrell (Judy) Knight and Vanetta Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, twin brother, Vertis Knight, Royal Knight, Ronnie “Easy” Knight, Wayne Knight, Ed Knight, Viola Hawkins, Betty Michaels, Wilma Woodrow, Ladonna Cracker, and Louise Mecum.
Funeral Services for Bertis Gene Knight, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17 at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Contributions can be made in Bertis’ memory to Lonesome Road Ministries and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
