Jacqueline “Jacque” Payne, 78, of Wayne City, Illinois, passed away at 10:47 pm October 10, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born December 24, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Carl and Helen (Hahn) House. Jacqueline married Richard Payne on August 19, 1967 at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 23, 2018. Jacque is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Buffy” Rainwater and husband, Brad of Wayne City, Illinois; grandchildren, Braeden Payne, Nina Legg and husband, Brad, Bailee Rainwater, Lexi Rainwater, and Kendall Rainwater; great-grandchildren, Reese Legg, Ridge Legg, and Rainia Legg; sister, Barbie Merchel and husband, Junior of Mount Vernon; siblings-in-law, Linda House of Opdyke, Illinois, Barbara House of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Randy Payne and wife, Diana, and Kendell Payne and wife, Diane; nieces and nephews, Mike House, John House, Angie House, Amy McCulley and husband, Brian, Lizzie Merchel, Tim House, and Dan House and wife, Christine, Christi Julius, Jessica Williams, and husband, Kent; great-nieces and great-nephews, Corey House and wife, Sherla, Jacey House, Maddie McCulley, Mason McCulley; and great-great-nephew, Tripp House.In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Jacque was preceded in death by her brothers, David House and Ronald House and nephew, Paul House. Jacque was a faithful member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. She retired as a registered nurse after 25 years. In her spare time, Jacque enjoyed to crochet. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends. Jacque will be greatly missed. A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 10:00 am at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with Father Joel Seipp officiating. Interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
