Lena Mae Sledge – Mt. Vernon

Lena Mae Sledge, 95, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Wayne City, Illinois, passed away at 7:37 P.M. October 15, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Lena was born in Keenes, Illinois to the late Ira and Ethel (Coil) Greenwalt. Lena married Marcene Sledge on November 21, 1941. They were blessed with sixty five years of marriage until he preceded her in death on January 5, 2007. Lena is survived by her son, Steve Sledge and wife, Kathi of Auburn, Illinois; daughter, Judy Beehn and husband, Mike of Bluford, Illinois; grandchildren: Kevin Deneen Sledge and wife, Sandy, Michael Beehn and wife, Hayley, Karissa Miller and husband, Andrew, Melanie Gary and husband, Andy, Lindsay White and husband, Michael, Alexis Call and husband, Andy; Great-grandchilden: Porcia Sledge, Hayden Dickerson, Joshua Gary, Emily Beehn, Maitland Miller, Madeline Beehn, Ethan Gary, Carson Call, and Caroline Call; great-great grandchildren, Sydney Sledge and Miles Sronce; sister-in-law, Earlene Greenwalt of Wayne City, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, son, Donald E. Sledge; and brothers:  Kelly Greenwalt, Gilbert Greenwalt, Robert Greenwalt, Harlan Greenwalt, Jeffrey Greenwalt, Gearl Greenwalt, and sister Dora Keele. Lena, along with her husband Marcene, owned and operated Sledge’s Flowers in Wayne City for many years. Later they owned Lena’s Flowers in Mount Vernon. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wayne City, Illinois. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne City, Illinois . A Funeral Service will follow at 2 P.M. with Reverend Bud Story officiating. Interment will follow at Garrison Temple Cemetery in rural Keenes. The family requests masks to be worn to the services.
