68-year-old James Glenn Whitley of Carmi, died on Saturday, January 15 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born on January 1, 1954, in Carmi, the son of Glenn and Alice (Chapman) Whitley. He married Trena Dean Clark on September 1, 1973. Jim sold cars for several years before starting his own construction business which he ran for 20 years before his retirement in 2017. He was an avid boater, Nascar enthusiast and enjoyed morning meetings with his coffee buddies.
Jim is survived by his wife Trena Whitley of Carmi; his children, Jared (Amy) Whitley of Carmi, and Laci (Andrew Gegg) Whitley of Edwardsville, IL; three grandchildren, Reagan and Reece Whitley and Maxim Gegg; siblings, Gary (Charlene) Whitley, David Whitley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donna Whitley, Cupel (Carolyn) Clark, Curtis Clark, Greg (Beth) Clark, and Vicky Clark, as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Alice Whitley; his father and mother-in-law, Cupel and Bonnie Clark; a brother, Ronnie Whitley; a brother-in-law, Terry Clark; and a sister-in-law, Karen Whitley.
Funeral services for Jim Whitley will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21 at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield, with burial at Enfield Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20 at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jim’s memory to the Carmi Elks Scholarship Fund or the Enfield Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield, who is in charge of arrangements.
