Billy Glen Barnfield – Geff

Billy Glen Barnfield, 91, of Geff, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 28th at Gateway Deaconess Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Bill was born October 23, 1930, at Indian Prairie, Illinois to Berlie Hawkins and Edna (Spriggs) Barnfield. He married Mary Katherine Highfill October 8, 1951, at Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She proceeded him in death

Bill was a longtime leader in the community of Geff, Illinois where he owned and operated the Texico and then the Shell service stations for 41 years beginning in 1959. He was the community go to man when anyone in the community needed anything. He was a long-time member of the Geff Volunteer Fire Department and Geff Ruritans. After retiring from the gas business, he worked a period of time leading the mowing crew at the Career Development Center in Fairfield, then became Herb Fenton’s helper at the Geff Grade School.

Bill served in the army as a jeep driver for the Chaplain on the front lines during the Korean War.

Bill is survived by daughters- Karolee Vaughan, Crystal McCann, both of Fairfield and Glenda (John) Allison of Mt. Erie; one son- Barry (Jill) Barnfield of Fairfield; Grandchildren: Kelli Breuer, Sara Schnepper, Rob Vaughan, Brian Vaughan, Emily Barnfield, Jessica Berghaus and Ryan Wiles and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Jack.

Proceeding him in death were his wife, his parents, grandson, Adam Bircket, son in law, Robert Vaughan, brothers: John, Howard, Harry, Freddy; Sisters: Bernita Porter, Vera Case, Thelma Case, Junie Harrell, and Dorothy Daugerty; half-brothers and sisters: Paul, Curtis, Burl, Lillian Bayes, and Ruth Carey.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM on Friday June 3, 2022, at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in Johnsonville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
